Websight: privacy policy
Last updated 21 October 2026. Applies to the Websight Chrome extension only.
In short
Websight scans the web page you are looking at, on your computer, when you click it. The results, your audits and your branding stay on your computer. The extension makes no requests to any website you scan and sends no page content anywhere. The only service it talks to is ExtensionPay, and only when you use or check a Pro subscription.
What the extension does with page content
When you click Scan, the extension reads the structure of the page in the current tab and runs the axe-core accessibility engine inside that tab. The results (rule names, the selectors and a short HTML snippet of affected elements, the page address and title, and for Pro users small cropped screenshots of affected elements) are saved in the extension's local storage on your computer. They are used only to show you results and to build reports you choose to save. They are not transmitted to the developer or to anyone else.
What is stored, and where
- Scan results, multi-page audits and your saved audit library: on your computer, in Chrome's extension storage.
- Your report branding (name, prepared-by line, contact line, accent colour, logo image): on your computer.
- A cached note of your Pro status (free, trial, paid, with the date it was checked): on your computer, so the extension keeps working for up to 24 hours if ExtensionPay cannot be reached.
You can delete all of it at any time in Settings with "Delete all stored data", or by removing the extension. Reports you download (PDF, CSV, JSON) are ordinary files in your downloads folder and are under your control.
Payments and Pro (ExtensionPay)
Pro subscriptions are handled by ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com), which uses Stripe to take payment. When you start a trial or subscribe, you give your email address, and for a subscription your payment details, to ExtensionPay and Stripe, not to this extension. ExtensionPay shares your email address and your payment status (whether you have an active trial or subscription, and when it started) with the developer so the extension can confirm your plan. The extension asks ExtensionPay for that status when you open it. Card details never reach the developer. ExtensionPay's and Stripe's own privacy policies apply to the data they hold.
What is not collected
No analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifiers, no browsing history, no account with the developer. The extension does not record which pages you scan.
Permissions
- activeTab and scripting: to run the scan, the highlighter and element screenshots in the tab you clicked on, and only after you click.
- storage and unlimitedStorage: to keep results, audits and branding on your computer (audits with screenshots can be large).
- extensionpay.com host permission: to confirm your Pro status and open the payment pages.
Children
The extension is a professional tool and is not directed at children.
